A little crimini packs a lot of punch

Crimini mushrooms are an excellent source of selenium, which helps to fight cancer. Other abundant minerals in crimini mushrooms are copper, potassium, phosphorus and zinc. Potassium is the mineral best known for bringing down your blood pressure and reducing your risk of stroke. Compared to the potassium value in white mushrooms, which yield only 315 mg of potassium, five medium creminis have 383 mg. One serving of crimini mushrooms provides a healthy dose of copper, which, like potassium, protects heart function. Crimini mushrooms are also a good source of B vitamins (vitamin B1, vitamin B2, B3 and B5), pantothenic acid and niacin. Other than that it contains tryptophan, CLA (conjugated-linoleic acid) best known for cancer fighting. It also contains a high amount of L-ergothioneine. This ingredient is a powerful antioxidant. Impressive roles played by L-ergothioneine include its ability to protect cells from mutating, protection from UV and radiation damage and its role in liver detoxification.
